How it's worked out
An estimate is a starting point. We can check the detail, spot reliefs you're missing and look at how you take income from your company.
Ask us to check itCheck your figures with HMRC
Our estimate shows what you should pay. HMRC's own services show what they have on record for you: your tax code, the income they know about and your National Insurance record. If the two don't match, it's worth finding out why.

What this estimate covers
It applies the rates and allowances for the year you choose, in the order HMRC applies them: earnings first, then savings, then dividends.
- Personal allowance, including the taper above £100,000
- Starting rate for savings and personal savings allowance
- Dividend allowance and dividend rates
- Class 1 employee NI, Class 4 and voluntary Class 2
- Basic rate band extended for pension contributions and Gift Aid
What it leaves out
Scottish income tax, rental income, capital gains, the High Income Child Benefit Charge, marriage allowance, student loan repayments, losses and other reliefs. Employee NI is worked out on annual pay; your payslips assess each pay period separately, so the actual figure can differ slightly.
